About Marike Harris

I have always allowed macabre literature and art to nurture my creativity. In the bedroom of my adolescence, decorated with cat drawings, tapestry prints, back-painted porcelain skulls, and pewter candle holders with tapered candles, I would snuggle up to my cats and write stories in gothic scenarios and allow my passion for the world around me to inspire my drawings.

Now a freelance writer and artistic painter in Brockville, Ontario, I invite sunshine and beauty to the home I share with my common law husband and two children. Once the children are asleep, I entertain my passion for ominous writing and illustrating.

When first approached to write a chapter in the collaborative novel, I was both intimidated and honoured to be included in such a unique venture so close to Bunty’s heart. After I read the flawless original version, I was enchanted by the chilling scenes and character descriptions. It was so well written that I wanted to learn from her eloquent and playful style and respectfully merge it with my own.

Embarking on such a project with other members of Writers’ Ink was one of the most fun, yet challenging, writing assignments that I have ever taken on. The other authors involved each took one chapter and gave it completely different colours with individual, quirky approaches to the subject matter that I believe did justice to Bunty Loucks, an artist and a writer who is an inspiration to all.
